Our Story

Vintage family group photo, part of the history of Seafood Shack & More.
Our family's journey to this moment started decades ago, across an ocean, during a time of uncertainty and hope. My parents, Hong and Ngoc, (but their friends call them Pinky and Vincent) came to America during the Vietnam War, determined to build a new life one filled with opportunity, safety, and the promise of something better. They found that life in the South, which quickly became more than just a place to live - it became home.

From the very beginning, my mom had a gift for cooking. At every family gathering, celebration, or neighborhood party, she was the one in the kitchen - cooking everything with love, care, and flavors no one could ever quite replicate. Cooking was her way of showing love, of connecting people, and of keeping traditions alive. She always dreamed of opening a restaurant, but like many dreams, it stayed tucked away as she raised a family and worked hard alongside my dad.

Instead, my parents opened Barrontown Grocery, a small gas station and store they owned and operated for over 20 years. It quickly became a staple in the community. It wasn't just a place to fuel your car or grab essentials, it was a place where you could count on a warm smile, a familiar face, and if you were lucky, a homemade meal from the back kitchen that smelled too good to walk away from. My mom's food turned customers into friends, and friends into family.

After two decades of hard work, they retired, ready to explore the world they had worked so hard to be a part of. But it didn't take long before they realized what they missed most wasn't just the store, but the people. The everyday conversations, the laughs, the shared lives over quick snacks and long stories.

That's when my mom decided to take the leap. She took over Seafood Shack & More in 2022, finally bringing her dream to life in the most beautiful way: by serving the food she loved to the community that loved her right back.

Our menu is a reflection of our roots and our journey. Southern seafood and comfort food became part of our family over the past 40 years, just like the South became part of who we are. These dishes - fried shrimp, catfish, homemade gumbo, and more carry stories, warmth, and a little bit of our history in every bite.

At Seafood Shack & More, food is more than just a meal. It's our way of saying thank you. It's how we celebrate, how we remember, how we welcome, and how we love. And we're so grateful to finally share that love with all of you.

Welcome to our table.
